Just Another 24 Hours is re-re-launched again

Welcome to the new look justanother24hours.com.

The theme is a modified Depo Skinny and the work was completed by Sweans Technologies who I commissioned via elance.

Still no advertising on the site (I wonder if that increases or decreases the credibility. I suspect that its detrimental).

I am going to be ramping up my blogging activities, more focus, some new regular features, more keywords and more plugins.

I am also going to change the header – I’ve had feedback that the image is ‘too cheesy’. It was taken at an ill-fated party a few years back. It’s just a placeholder for the time being.

Let me know what you think of the new look and feel.

Facebook re-design takes the News Feed closer to Twitter

You’re probably already noticed that Facebook has made another sweep of changes to its layout and interface. It builds on the previous re-org but moves more towards the Fisher-Price look and feel, which I referred to in my review of the Google Chrome browser.

One of the most talked about new features is the ‘real time’ stream on the News Feed and the fact that users can now determine which of their friend’s feed appear in their news feed by hiding friends and creating groups. More on this from Inside Facebook.

These features – when compared with the fact that users can comment on updates (much like FriendFeed) – make the Newsfeed a lot more like Twitter, which is the current darling of the social media scene. It is beginning to suffer from a bit of over exposure at the moment as any fan of TWIT will testify.

New blog design not quite finished

I have spent some time re-designing my blog with help from a developer in India (found via elance.com). I am quite happy with the simplified template although I need to work on the header. Something for later in the week and then I think I need to focus on blogging about interesting stuff as opposed to obsessing about the design and look of my site. My new notebook arrived today – an HP DV5 – and its all sparklie and new smelling. The fact that my old notebook was slowly grinding to a complete halt has not helped my productivity in recent months.

One in Four Prefer the Old Facebook

What do you think of the new Facebook design?

My first impression of the new new design was that it felt more like an enterprise application. I think the tabs have added a sense – imagined or real – of complexity.

I don’t understand the justification from moving from the one profile page to the tabbed format. A service which made a huge amount of information and interaction readily available has become much more cumbersome to use.

With the old version, you didn’t know what was new, but by scrolling down the page – the new content was revealed to you. Now users must click on tabs and literally find content and updates – it’s much less fun and much more effort.

Facebook won’t be supporting the two versions, unlike Yahoo!, for example, which continues to support ‘Classic’ and ‘New’ Yahoo! Mail. This is despite the fact that 1 in 4 users prefer the old design (Facebook data).

The Inside Facebook blog is a great source of info on – you guessed it – Facebook.

People have an emotional connection with Facebook and they tend to be resistant to change in general so it’s inevitable that there would be a kick back to the re-design.

This Facebook group ‘1 000 000+ to bring back old facebook’ has 369,810 members.
